The first 48 hours after having a baby are a lot...

You're running on zero sleep, your whole world just changed, and somehow you're also expected to figure out how to keep a tiny human alive. It's beautiful and chaotic and goes by way too fast.

Which is exactly why a Fresh 48 session is one of the best decisions you can make before baby arrives.

What Is a Fresh 48 Session?

A Fresh 48 session is a lifestyle newborn photography session that takes place within the first 48 hours of your baby's life. It happens right there in your hospital room, before you ever pack up and head home.

There's no props. Just you, your new baby, and all the raw, beautiful, real moments that happen in those first precious hours. Posing is optional, and I may come come prepared with a studio light for hospital rooms that don't have windows, or if the weather is particularly dreary.

For this particular session, I had the joy of photographing a family of four at South Miami Hospital. It was my second time shooting newborn photos at this particular hospital, and it's always a great

The Moments I Capture in every Fresh 48 session

Every Fresh 48 session tells a story. Here's a glimpse of what unfolded during this beautiful session:

Mom and baby

The quiet in-between moments: mom looking down at her newborn, tiny fingers wrapped around hers, that look on her face that's hard to put into words. A mix of posing and real moments are captured with mom first.

Baby, hands, and toes

The miniature toes. The little scrunched-up hands. The way newborns curl into a ball when being held. These details change so fast, so I make sure to get all of them.

Dad with Baby

Dads tend to be the most underrepresented in newborn photos, and (as a dad myself) I'm not letting that happen. Whether he's nervously figuring out how to hold his new seven-pounder or already looks like a natural, those photos matter.

Big Sibling Meets Baby

The mix of curiosity, excitement, and a little bit of "wait, is this permanent?" on a big kid's face is priceless. Sibling introduction photos are some of the most-looked-at images families end up with.

The Whole Family

Mom, dad, big sister, new baby... all in one frame. I like to provide a mix of posed and candid opportunities so that families can choose what style they like best when they print and frame their photos.

Why a Fresh 48 Session Is Worth It

If you're a mom-to-be in Miami or Kendall wondering whether a Fresh 48 session is worth adding to your birth plan, the answer is a resounding yes. Here's why:

You don't have to do anything

You don't have to worry about coordinated outfits, a styled nursery, or driving across town with a two-day-old. Your photographer comes to you, meets you where you are (hospital gown and all), and does their thing while you focus on your baby.

Your baby will never be this small again

Newborns change within days — the scrunchy little face, the way they fit in the crook of your arm. A Fresh 48 session captures it before it's already gone.

The hospital is part of the story

South Miami Hospital has a warm, comfortable feel, and those first hours there are genuinely part of your family's story. It's always worth documenting these moments.

You'll actually be IN the photos

Moms are always behind the camera. A Fresh 48 session fixes that. You're the main character here.

Zero Prep Required

You can book it and forget about it until the baby comes, then send your photographer a text. That's it.

What to Expect During Your Fresh 48 Session

If you're delivering at South Miami Hospital or another hospital in the Miami or Kendall area, here's what the experience typically looks like:

  • I arrive at the hospital within the first 24–48 hours of birth — whenever you area ready. I suggest putting your spouse, partner, or other present family member in charge of communicating with me so that you don't have to worry about the logistics.
  • Sessions are relaxed and unhurried. I follow your baby's lead.
  • Most sessions last between 1–2 hours.
  • Expect candid moments, detail shots, family groupings, and plenty of newborn close-ups.
  • Siblings and extended family are welcome. The more love in the room, the better!

The goal is never to rush or pose rigidly. It's to document a new chapter in your life as its story unfolds.
