Bill Baggs Cape Florida (or "El Farito" to locals) Is the Perfect spot for a Pregnancy Announcement Shoot
This shoot is going to be a favorite of mine for a long time. Everyone always wants the maternity shoot, right? When the bump is showing and mom and dad are just a few weeks away from their due date. But somewhere along the way, we've forgotten that the announcement can be just as special. That very first moment a couple decides to share the biggest news of their lives looks awesome on camera. And Ashley and Brendan were fantastic to work with.
Ashley found me and needed things done quickly. She and Brendan were heading out for a trip in 48 hours and they needed announcements done in 24. We booked for the next day and met at Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park on Key Biscayne for a late afternoon session.
Bill Baggs is one of my favorite places to be a Key Biscayne family photographer. The lighthouse looks beautiful in the background, the sane is a neutral beige that compliments any wardrobe, and the vegetation on the dunes is lush and wild. A huge advantage is that this beach is quieter than the ones on South Beach and Miami Beach. Less people means better photos and more opportunities.
There are so many beautiful spots that my clients often come up with their own photo ideas. Of course, I am more than happy to oblige whenever someone says. "Ooooh, I've got an idea. Can you take a photo of us like this?!" The shot list I've prepared, along with Ashley & Brendan's ideas, and the props they wanted (sonogram and flowers), made for an incredibly dynamic gallery of photos.
We worked in a few different spots around the park to get all kinds of photos, everything from sweet candid moments to unique and creative close-ups.
And, of course, you can't have a beach session without getting a little but of that blue ocean in the background. Ashley and Brendan weren't up for a splash, but we found a way to get the water in the picture without getting them in the water.
I'm so happy for these two. What a beautiful, exciting chapter ahead. Congratulations!
For any pregnancy announcement session in Key Biscayne, I'd highly recommend booking for the hour or two before sunset or after sunrise. The light wraps beautifully, the crowds are mostly gone, and there's a magic to that hour that's hard to replicate. Overcast days are also wonderful; they create the softest, most flattering light and take away any worry about squinting or harsh shadows.
